How to compare

What makes a duvet without cover test-worthy?

Practical criteria we use when assessing Plumelle, not marketing slogans.

01

Washability

Can the whole duvet go in a household machine at a hygienic temperature and keep its shape after repeated cycles?

02

Breathability & comfort

Without a separate cover, the outer fabric and construction must feel comfortable on the skin and manage temperature well.

03

Durability after washing

Filling distribution, seams, colour and finishing should stay stable, not only look good when new.

04

Transparent proof

Clear test methods, honest limits, and independent standards where they apply, not vague claims.

How Stiftung Warentest tests products, and why Plumelle is not listed yet

Stiftung Warentest independently decides which product categories and products it will test. Manufacturers cannot commission, purchase or request a product review.

Once a category has been selected, Stiftung Warentest purchases the products anonymously and has them tested according to its own criteria and procedures.

Duvets without a separate cover are still a relatively new product category in Germany. It may therefore take time before this type of duvet is included in a dedicated comparison.

Plumelle has not yet been tested by Stiftung Warentest. We do not claim to be a Stiftung Warentest winner or “testsieger”. Until this category and Plumelle are selected, we show transparently how our products are tested, which certifications support production, and how every product is checked before it leaves the factory.

Internal practical tests*

How we tested our duvet without a separate cover

80+ wash & dry cycles · 60°C · <5% shrink

The Plumelle Earth duvet completed more than 80 internal wash and tumble-drying cycles. It was repeatedly washed at 60°C, dried, and checked for size, shape, filling clumping, colour and finishing.

The filling stayed evenly distributed. Seams stayed stable. Shrinkage stayed below 5%. Colours became slightly and evenly lighter: a normal result of intensive washing, not a loss of function.

Documented internal tests by Plumelle and Deltex, not independent laboratory tests.*
